Check yourself before you wreck yourself

I mean, I’m certainly not the fastest guy on the trails, but I’ve got more trail running cred than most of the racers here. After a full summer of big runs in the mountains, throwing down thousand-feet-per-mile grades off trail … Continue reading

Stupid Fun

“Hey, let’s go race each other uphill on skis in the dark!” Some people (probably most people) would say, “No! That sounds stupid and painful and why would anyone do that!” A much smaller group of people would say, “Okay, … Continue reading

Lucky Thirteen

Some problems have multiple solutions.  Three months ago, Levi talked me into signing up for the Gold Rush Bike Rally.  It’s a wildly-varying course with lots of climbing, some pavement and smooth dirt road, some loose gravel and sand, more … Continue reading

Momentum: 100 miles in the Bighorn Mountains and Other Places

It grinds on, but I’ve lost all sense of time and pace and effort. I’m so far gone that the idea of stopping seems exotic, anathema. Fast Times in So. Cal. – City of Angels Half Marathon

There are a lot of things I’ve never done. I won’t go into detail except to say that visiting Los Angeles and running a major road race are two of them. Fortunately, my work schedule took me to Pasadena for … Continue reading

Running the Pikes Peak Ascent

The Short Version I started running back in January with Chris and Peter. Largely out of peer pressure, I joined a group of friends and signed up to run the Pikes Peak Ascent, a 13.4 mile run up Pikes Peak … Continue reading
